I have a 1998 Mercury Mystique (Ford Contour). It is a total peice of Sh*t. Some times it will stall, it will only do this when I am slowing down to take a corner, or at a red light, or stop sign. I was doing this almost every day for a while, then, I took it to the mechanic, they said nothing was rong, they couldnt get it to stall. On my way home from the mechaic, it stalls. Then it stoped doing it. Untill today. It has done it three times. On top of this, somtimes when I start my car for the first time in a day (cold or otherwise) it will occasionaly have a very shaky start and make a very scarry sound and somtimes violently shack its self off If i dont turn it off before then. I am thinking timing belt, but I am not for sure. I am going to take it to another mechanic and see if they cant figure it out, but I wanted to have a good Idear before I did so.

CHANGE THE PLUGSS AND WIRES THIS problem is very coomon and this particular engine reacts this way to bad spark.out of the last ten i have diagnosed with this problem four were plugs and wires three were trannys ,but the tranny ones had more severe problems you have an intermittent problem which leaves out the tranny ,some of your wires are bad losing contact at timesadded a 4"toyota lift kit to my 94 pick up now it shakes what could be the problem?
Nobody will want to work on that pile of crap.......sorry to say so. You will get the runaround over and over (and plenty of empty repair bills that never get it fixed). My advice, since these cars are such worthless pieces.....get something else. It will be cheaper in the long run.2003 VW Passat w/ 80,000 miles for $12,000.....?
