What's the best and cheapest way to add more torque to the Honda S2000?

I'm looking for a new car and the only thing I don't like about the S2000 is the lack of low-end torque. Most people are concerned with HP but torque is what makes a vehicle quicker and wins races. I know a supercharger or turbo will improve it but I don't want to spend that much money. Maybe there's an ECU chip that adds more torque?

No NA mods will gain you appreciable torque in the S2000. Without going FI (forced induction), you can only tweak a low displacement, high revving engine to a certain extent.

Basic bolt-ons such as an intake and exhaust results in minor gains (<5hp, 2-3lb-ft torque). ECU tuning via a VAFC is pointless if you're staying NA - an AEM EMS or Hondata ECU (06+ only) will net you some minor gains, but again nothing substantial. The Hondata ECU removes the mid-range dropoff before VTEC transition, but the result is you get a minor gain for only a small 500rpm rev wnidow. For the rest of the rev-range, you end up gaining a couple hp/lb-ft.

Yup. You can easily get torque by tuning your car. All you need to do is find a reliable workshop then ask them to tune it for you. You can try the chip that specially design for V-tec. Sorry I've forgot the name of it. It cost less than a super charge or a turbo. Super charge and turbo need maintenance and that cost a lot. Super charge and turbo will defect the fuel consumption as well. Hope you can find the chip, is called something like VTFC... Anyway, hope you can find it.

Change your throttle body. Its gives 1/3 of the power that you would get in putting in a supercharger and it makes your RPM go higher which is better for the S2000

there isnt a way. anything major done to your car isnt going to be a benifit without a tune, and getting your car tuned by a pro is probibly more that you want to spend. just get an intake header and exaust and take it from there. you should be able to gain some more power.

Definately add some sort of header. Also, you can do exhaust, but don't overdue the piping diameter. Something like 2 1/4 inch is perfect for a n/a car, while 2 1/2 or larger would be more for a turbo car. You can do a cold air intake, the provide more low end torque than an intake that sits in the engine bay, due to the longer piping, but they also have the benefit of drawing in colder, more denser air. After that with a reflash of the ecu, you'd think you were in a completely different car. The powerband will be much wider, rather than just peaking at like 7k. You will not only add low end power, but the car will get out of the sluggish low rpm's much faster and into where it makes the real power. Also underdrive pullies would be a good idea if you don't plan on having a heavy hitting system.
