The GTI has a black grill similar to the chrome grill on the 07 Jetta and the rabbit does not have that. The GTI's bumpers are also sportier than the rabbits.The GTI has a turbocharged 200HP engine and it is the sporty version of the rabbit. But, it has better gas mileage than the slower rabbit.
The rabbit has a 150HP engine and is slower.
Also, the suspension will be different and you can get DSG (paddle shifters on the steering wheel) on the new GTI. They are fast and fun cars. In addition, there are some rims that you can only get on the GTI that you can't get on the rabbit. The GTI is more sporty on the outside too. They are subtle differences but once you start looking at the cars side by side, you'll see them.
