What is wrong with my 93 Ford Explorer (Transmission)?

Question:
At around 25 MPH, in second gear, the RPM will jump around 1000, then come back down to normal. I also think it is missing a gear between there and 52 or so MPH. So, Y!, What's up?

You dont need a tranny rebuild!!Those trannys are computer controlled.it may be something as simple as a bad sensor.I hate it when everyone always jumps to the conclusion of tranny rebuild everytime you hear a tranny question.Late model vehicles now have computer controlled transmissions which kinda sucks because one little sensor may be bad causing the whole thing to screw up.Take it to a local mechanic or a reputable transmission shop first before deciding to have it rebuilt.Remember,it may just be a sensor!!--Good luck.

I had a 93 Explorer with the same problem. It's the torque converter locking and unlocking. It's not the transmissions fault, it's the computer that controls it. A bad MAF sensor, throttle position sensor or vacuum leak can cause it.
And if it still has the original fluid, it's about ten years overdue for a flush.
