99 jeep wrangle issues?

I JUST PUIRCHASED A 99 WRANGLER -
I WAS DRIVING IT HOME AND THE DASH RPM AND MPH
WAS WORKIGN AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN DIED AND THEN CAME BACK?
ANY THOUGHTS?

I own a shop, and saw one just like this a few months back. It turned out the dash was loosing its ground to the fire wall. The ground strap that runs from the engine to the fire wall may be bad, or the ground from the fire wall to the dash components may be corroded and/or not making a good connection. Sometimes you will loose the dash lights too. Also; check the ground wire that runs from the battery to the frame/engine. Without these grounding points, many things will act crazy, and stop working.
