I was doing an image search for a car similar to one my husband used to race(74 Nova) when I saw something about a 470--(engineL81 ) Was this a standard engine for Corvette at some point? or I am mistaken?

I own a shop, and do a lot of performance work. I don't think this was a standard engine ever used in the Vette. You can go to www.goodwrench.com and link to this information. The Chevy Performance Guides will list all the engines ever produced, and what vehicles they were used in, as standard as well as special order.Glad to help out, Good luck!

L81 was an RPO code for the only Corvette engine option in 1981, a 190 hp 350. It wasn't exactly a performance engine, so you may have it confused with something else, possibly something along the lines of an L88 427.
