Question:
There is no noise coming from the rear end, transmission or transfer case to indicate any problem. When in gear it seems to hesitate a bit in reverse, and the rear end locks up when I step on the clutch. The forward gears work just fine. The only thing I can think of is the emergency brake drum attached to the drive shaft. The Jeep is a CJ6. Thanks for your help.

If the jeep doesn't stop the problem is in the tranny, probably a reverse idler bearing.
Is the gear shift panel for the 2003 Ford Mustang suppose to light up?
If it does jam up we go to step two. Matchmark the driveshaft at the diff and disconnect it at the diff. No need to remove it just tie it up out of the way. Do the reverse push test again.
Renault Megane Scenic Idling problems?
If it jams up the problem is in the diff and will probably require a rebuild.
does gm still make oldsmobiles anymore?
If it doesn't jam up rotate the free floating driveshaft in the reverse direction (and forward) to see if it stops (tranny in neutral). Listen hard for any noises that come from the t-case. The idler in there might be loose and jams up with rerverse rotation.

Weird. The only thing I can think of is maybe your clutch pedal is making your brake pedal go down enough to engage the brakes. Get someone to safely watch your taillights, and if they light up when you push in the clutch, WITHOUT pushing the brake pedal, then the bushings on your pedal assembly need to be replaced. Happened on my 69 F-100, but I didn't have problems in reverse like you are. Weird.sounds like u have a brake problem jack it up and spin the wheels to see if something is hanging up then tare down

If it's not that your differential ring gear could be worn from too much down shifting, but it's unlikely. It would make noise.
