99 Neon weird stuff happening?
I own a shop, and those are a pain in the rear to change. If they can do it in 8 hours, they are doing good. I can tell you from experience, these are big trouble to change. The gasket is high from any place you get it, and like I said, 8 hrs. is doing it pretty quick. I don't know about where you live, but the shops around here get $75 per. hour labor. Around here it would be $800 - $900 for the job, so as you can see getting it done for that is a bargin. Yeah, good technicians get paid pretty good money, but then again they have to buy $50,000 worth of tools, and go to school every year to keep up with the new vehicles, plus you got certification fees & classes they must attend in order to be able to work in a reputable shop. Believe me, you don't find many rich mechanics, and they don't come out smelling like the rose everybody thinks they do. You have never worked a job that is more physically demanding, mentally straining, and injury prone, to just hear people say they are all rip off's. A mechanic is one of the most educated persons in the work force, and gets the blame for everything wrong with the customers vehicle. I once had a customer who had two vehicles that looked identical. We rebuilt his transmission, and a week later he came back and said it quit working. When we got the transmission out, we realized it wasn't one of our rebuilds. We get customers who bring their own parts thinking they are saving money, but when that part fails, we can't fix it again since we didn't purchase the part, we can't warranty the job due to the fact we loose money on doing the labor, and it was nothing we did to cause the problem. Try making a customer understand that one! I have heard "Rip off Mechanics" until it runs out my ears, but yet the customer doesn't seem to understand that their problem is not our problem, and the customer can take it anywhere they choose. If I were you, I would just pay the $400 and be happy you got it done. Anyone ever gave a mechainc a tip? No. but they sure will give them hell, won't they?Glad to help out, Good luck!
Why do people buy AC cars and still travel with windows down in summer and still bear the heat ?
that is a bargain.take itIt is a fair price, as the head gasket is only a small piece to the engine.
It doesnt cost very much in comparison to other parts and considering the year of your car it shouldnt be costly either.
so youve given a good enough price.
Any opinions on the 1982 BMW 320i?
that's a fair price... but it's more like 40 for the gasket and 360 for the labor...that is a lot of work!Renault scenic cars are they any good?
Not a bad price! The gasket set alone is somewhere in the neighborhood of $150 retail! I'd go for it if you know the mechanics reputation and work! Key factor--reputation and quality of work! Make sure it's in writing and very explicit as to what will be performed and list of parts! Many of the fly-by-nights will do this and then hit you with a huge bill in the end showing all kinds of add-ons! (unexpected repairs, parts, and labor) The biggest scam in the book! It's a gasket set-not just a head gasket! You have many other items coming off the engine to replace the head gasket which requires new gaskets also like the exhaust, intake, plenum and many coolant gaskets also!
