im lookin at a 1999 and a 2000 dodge dakota single cab short bed both auto with the v6 3.9 around 90k miles. are there any problems with them that are big?

bout as reliable as any other vehicle. but might as well get a V-8 version. as the 3.9 V-6 gets the same MPG as the 5.2 and the 4.7 V-8's. you have to watch the Ball joints as I think it goes from 2000 to 2003 the recalls was for. but peopel said they had as far as 97 have ball joint issues., if yo u do get it just replace the ball joints with moogs and you wont have a problem. the problem with the factory ones was they went with BJ that didnt need greasing (great idea huh) so when moisture got in it brokedown the grease and wore the joints out.the other big problem is the heater cores can got out. my sisters 99 dakota went out 3 times. it costs a small fortune as you have to rip out the whole dash.

the last thing is the belly pan gasket tends to go out. best way to tell is look down your throttle body and see if you see alto fo oil. if you do just get a felpro gasket for it and wont have to worry about it again.

i have a 2001 its a nice truck besides the rough idle. its funny i was 400 miles away from home on a delivery and i saw my truck. you know the same year and engine and he was getting into it so i walked up and listened to him start it. same rough idle and same belt squeal. my friend end pulls hard. i get front end alignments and all it takes is a decent bump and its off. i think they are reliable. good luckMore Questions & Answers ...
