Question:
I have a 1965 Ford F250 4X4 w/ 300 six and a 4spd. I want to put in a 5spd and add some low end torque. I am not looking for a dragster but would like to improve low end torque. I know how to build a small block but have never done any mods on the 300 six. Would a Comp Cams 268 be to much for it. I am looking for details on this. This engine will be balanced and forged pistons or maybe those hypereutectic (spelling?). Header four barrel. Who carries performance parts for this engine. I want to keep the six so no V8 answers because I can do that one on my own. I want something different. Please be specific.

The first thing that comes to mind is headers. I believe I remember a 4 barrel carb and manifold being around. JC Whitney may have them. You may try Ford racing too. Will a broke timing chain cause a coil pack to not fire 98 cavalier 2.2?
First of all the 300 six has more torque than the 351 V8.There are a number of after market suppliers of speed equipment for this engine. Start with the link below.

Take a look at the carburetor, tiny isn't it? put on a 4 barrel carb and manifold, headers as soon as you can and a performance cam, this will really wake up that six. It likes big carbs, with lots of flow.

The four barrel will be great, however keep the carb small. The reason being is better torque from the small carb. Vacuum secondary's are a must. they will only engage when actually needed. A split header would be next for dual exhaust. Then convert the ignition to electronic, easy to do if you put a 1975 or 1976 distributor in it. Get the harness and module for the same year. It will hook directly to your existing coil wire from the ignition switch, then use a aftermarket coil for more spark.More Questions & Answers ...
