I recommend a poly tank. It will never rust, and it is more flexible than steel. If you go offroad, your best setup is a poly tank with a nice heavy steel skid plate around it.

i personally like the poly tanks better if you do just mild offroading and they are a must if you live around salt (mich they salt the roads) steel rusts out we have a 94 ford at work the gas tanks rusted out twice already i had 94 dodge and the poly tank was just fine but the steel fuel neck rusted but i think for serious off road a steel tank might take more of a beating

Poly tanks are good, they don't rust, and they are flexible. However over time they will crack and leak. I have a poly fuel cell in my YJ and after 4 years it cracked about 8 inches long and 1 inch wide. It was just from the hot summers and cold winters. It was an RCI just FYI. So i would go with a steel tank. It may rust but it will take longer to rust than you own the jeep.
