Question:
I thought I had a stock motor when I bought a 67 Cuda, but found it is a 318, and in bad shape. I would like a stock 340 but can't find one. I am thinking of a 360 H.P. that will bolt in. Any suggestions.

What kind of hybrids are there?
Use the 360 - Suggest buying a brand new one from Mopar Performance - will cost you about the same as a good rebuild - I would suggest you get an 8 3/4" rear end (you likely have a stock 7 1/4" rear - if it is a 318 Automatic car). this will also give you the opportunity to go to a large bolt pattern wheel (at least for the back)Would also suggest you tie the front and rear frame rails together, especially if it is a convertible
Avoid using headers - they will never fit right - get a set of 360 exhaust manifolds (you will never find 340 manifolds at a reasonable price) and run a good dual exhaust
If you have a 3 or 4 speed stick you are in good shape - if you have an automatic you likely have the low performance 904 rather than the 727 - that is fine just get it rebuilt with a shift kit and use a good stall speed converter

360 really is the same as 340..a hair bigger, same block as 318 and 273. all thre same small block1995 Isuzu Rodeo "ticking sound"!?
340 is better if you can find one, preferably 70 or later, higher commpression motor. Or get a new hemi out of a wrecked car or truck, you cant find the old hemis.Grand cherokee gearbox problem??
The 67 Cuda came with a 273 V-8, which is the same outside as the 340/360. The 340 for early 70s or 68-69 have bigger valves and breathe better but the 360 crate engine is outstanding. Should fit right in.More Questions & Answers ...
