I saw some new pics of the Subaru Impreza WRX Hatchback and Sedan and I am very dissapointed. I think Subaru made a decision to have a much more broader audience rather than the 20-30 year old range in which its bought by. It looks very feminine, Kia Spectra 5, Matrix, Mazda 3 like. I thought the Hatchback was ugly but the Sedan is even worst! I got an 06 STI and feeling that the new STI wont look better. I'm very envious of all the EVO fans. What's your thought of the new WRX?

Personally I think it looks absolutely hideous, I'm still a big fan of GCs and Bugeyes, but am quite content with my peanut eye STi. I still can't even get used to the pig nosed gen(06-07), and now they unleash the hideous beast, I'm not even sure what to call the 08, maybe the butt nosed impreza? :p The hatch is just downright ugly, but even the sedan looks like its missing something, like they cut the tail off, the first link below shows both, and I'm VERY disappointed. I owned an EVO then went to an STi, and it looks like I'll be going back to an EVO or something else because the spy shots for the next gen EVO look quite appalling as well. The 08 impreza is quite scary, I thought the 06-07 tail lights were butt ugly, the new tail makes me picture a 6" double decker park bench aluminum wing stapled to the roof with chopped springs and melon launcher exhaust.Should i get a honda Prelude1998?

I don't mind it. It's reminiscent of the typical European hatch-backs with a sporty look and an engine to match. I'll agree that it looks somewhat effeminate, but it's like a Miata (not to such an extent of "girly-ness"), it was made for track and off-road use, not to look nice.

on the other hand, the Lancer range shows much promise
and their idea of a lift back seems much more intresting that Subaru's hatch

I think the early Motor Trend photos of the Impreza made it look much worse than it actually is, with the matte black grill looking more like chrome. I agree that the redesign looks generic and conservative compared to previous (and very disctinctive) Impreza models--it bears a lot of resemblance to the Toyota Corolla and Mazda 3. However, the fact remains that despite record sales in North America last year, Subaru has not been meeting its sales targets. They can't survive on enthusiasts alone (who make up only a small part of the market) and I think the new Impreza will indeed appeal to a wider audience.If it's the hatchback-ish looking thing, it's pretty bomb.
