K&N Air Filter bad for engine??

Question:
When I took my 01 grand cherokee w/ 4.0 to dealership to get an oil change the mechanic said that the K&N air filter i had in there was bad for the engine. He said the oil they put on it bad. I think he is just b.s.ing me so i would buy one of his filters. is it true?

Any oil that goes into the intalke is a bad thing. It can screw up sensors, give faulty readings to the O2 after they burn, or clog stuff up. But at the same time the K&N needs the oil for fine particle trapping. The easy trick is not to soak up the filter after you clean it. Apply only enough oil to do the job and wait 1 day before you drive it. This gives the oil enough time to penetrate and bond to the filter. If you drive it right away the loose surface oil will get sucked right through and into the engine. You can also do 2 very light coats over two days.

Hmm, is hard to say. I had an issue with one filter(NOT K&N), put that special oil on it, and they said that it had messed up my sensor in the intake. But, as far as I've had a K&N in any of my vehicles, No trouble what so ever.

if your K&N filter is dirty, clean it and re -oil it with k&n filter oil.
It's better for performance , but needs to be cleaned regularly.

Its true. The K&N air filter has an oil that helps collect the dirt and dust. That oil can get on the Mass Air Flow sensor and screw up the air fuel mixture. I had the same thing happen to my Blazer. WHen I took the MAF sensor our I could feel the oil on the sensor plates. Cleaned it off, removed the filter and my Check engine light went out and my gas mileage returned.

K&N filters are great for your car. They are high flowing and reusable. They will not be bad for your car. Keep it in there! I've been running one for years and would never put a paper filter in my car!
