Question:
I just bought this 88 GMC 1500 SLX shortbox pick up and in the last couple of days the Rear wheels would lock up on me.
I'd kick it in to 4 low and move it back and foward and it wold break lose and carry on.
It's got one of them limited slip rear ends and I haven't had the chance to open it up yet but I'm wondering if the transfer case can also cause the same problem?

I own a shop, and build a lot of rear ends. The one thing I can think of is; the bolt that holds the pin in for the spider gears has worked its way out, and the pin is falling down making it lock up. If it is a posi traction rear end, it could be the clutches not releasing due to the wrong oil in the rear end. There is not too many things that would make it lock up. It could even be a broke spider gear doing it. Either way, you need to pull the cover, and have a look before you try to drive it. Major damage will take place if you drive it like that.I wouldn't think the transfer case is doing it because it would be making a lot of noise if it was.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!
