What Ford V8 do you like better, Clevo , Windsor or Modular ?

As title says, which of the Ford V8s is your favourite, and why ?
I love the Windsor's (weezer) but will be getting the modular 5.4 quad cam in my new car soon !

Well, I guess it all depends. I own all 3 motors in truck applications. I had a 2WD 01 XL with the 5.4 and upgraded it to a 97 4X4 Mark III Luxury Edition with the 4.6. I feel that the 4.6 is a better motor than the 5.4 is. The 5.4 I had burned alot of oil with only 60K miles and popped a few spark plugs while the 4.6 is looking at 110K without any problems. Towing was a hair better with the 5.4 than the 4.6 but neither of them can hold a candle to the 5.8 in my 86 F-150 when it comes to pulling a load. This is all strictly engine design. The Modulars engine design makes them great for a high revving motor but the small diameter pistons and longer connecting rods do little to nothing for low RPM torque. the Windsor has been around for a long time and has a plethora of aftermarket support something both of the other motors lack. Stock to Stock the Windsor has better Low end torque but the stock breathing of the motor leaves little to be desired and won't let it reach into the high RPMS like the modualrs can. The Cleveland was a straight powerhouse motor. The breathing chokeups that the windsor has are not a problem because of the Big Block style heads with huge Canted Valves and good size intake and exhaust ports. But this motor fell victim to the mid 70's Gas/Smog crunch. Ford stopped producing them in 74 so that the name would not be "Tarnished" but instead "Tarnished" the name by producing the 351"M"odified by modifying a 400 with a 351C crank and some funky clunky pistons. alot of people with 351M's will say they have a 351C not knowing any better. the 351C hands down spanks both the windsor and the modulars when you are talking about raw power. the 351C can reach high high RPMS unlike the Windsor BUT the 351C does nto oil the main bearings first this creates oil starvation issues at high RPMS. SOOO To wrap things up and since you said "CAR" I will break it down like this. My choice for a "Fast" car is the 5.4 DOHC and My choice for a "Quick" Car is the 351C. NOW as a throw you for a loop my Ultimate Choice is the 351 "Clevor" This engine uses a 351W bottom end and a 351C Top end eliminating the oiling issues of the C and the breathing issues of the W. This particular engine build is more popularly done using a 302 Block not the 351W Block---AKA BOSS 302

What do you think about the new LS460?

Windsors are my favorite -- for compactness (especially the 289/302), ease of building and availability of low cost parts. I've built three and they all worked great. The 385-series big blocks (429/460) are also very good for the money but also big and heavy.

what is causing my signal lamps to do this? (75 Chevy truck)?


Mods are good performers but more costly, very wide for their internal displacement, and (my peeve) limited to 100mm bore spacing -- that means no 4" pistons.
