94 ford diesel?

i am working on a 94 ford f350 diesel. when it gets warm, it misses and smokes profusely. any ideas on what the cause might be? or tips on diagnosing the problem?

you might have bad oil rings on the pistons and it is letting oil get on top of the piston, causing the oil to smoke when it is burned. what do you mean it misses?
