As for engine reliability, they are both proven engines with no known issues. My first LS I traded it at 122K miles (quite a bit of highway miles), with no issue rather than just wear items every so often. According to JDPower, reliability is above average, and led it's segment I believe in the 2005 year Vehicle Dependability Survey (which took into account 2002-03 models).
My only pet peeve is I wish the climate control seats setting would stay at it's programmed position, rather than reseting each time I turn off the car...but most are that way.
