How do you adjust Idle air control valve in 1997 Dodge Intrepid?

Question:
Car idles super fast. Went to replace IAC and got worse. Tried driving short distance. Still not working. Removed valve and it did not adjust at all.

This component is completely computer controlled and there is no way for you to adjust it. If the idle is very high, the first place I would look is for a vacuum leak. A way for you to find this at home would be to buy a can of propane with a valve that you can open manually. Then attach a long piece of small diameter hose to the propane, turn it on, and while the car is running, run the hose around the engine paying special attention to the intake manifold and anything with vacuum hoses, like the EGR valve and fuel pressure regulator. If there is an air leak allowing unmetered air into the vehicle thereby causing a fast idle condition, it will change the idle speed when you get close to it with the propane. You are basically increasing the amount of fuel in the car and it will back off on fuel control so that the idle goes down. This is just a starting point and one that you can do before taking it to a facility if it doesn't work. If it comes to that, I recommend taking the vehicle to an ASE Blue Seal rated facility, an elite certification given to only 3-4% of shops across the nation. You can find one in your area on ASE.com.
