I agree with Siverstang. You need to remove the diff. lock pin first. Push both of the axle shafts inward, and then remove the C-clips retaining the axle shafts, to enable removal.

The pin needs to be removed first, then you can pull the C-c;ips, not S-clips. Don't pull that S spring, or you'll have a very difficult time to get it back together.
