BMW uses a replacable sensor. If the sensor has gone down far enough to set the light off, it will need to be replaced, as the sensor has been damaged. I work in a garage and have delt with this a few times. Now, whenever a BMW comes in with the brake light on, its now our practice to replace the sensors. I think they are about $20-40 per sensor. One of the joys of BMW.
