Turbo 350 is vacuum operated...I think your shift linkage may b out of adjustment...u think your in drive but it's actually neutral. What is the best hand car wash in the Bay area, CA?
i own a repair shop, and if its a 350 turbo it will have a modulator valve on it,and it has a tiny adjustment screw in the center of it,but that's not whats making it not shift, that would probably be a stuck ball in the valve body of it,if you get a chance to drain it and clean it out,let it set for about a day and let all the old fluid and junk drip out of it,this will help get all the loose stuff out of it,and you can take the valve body out and have it checked,a transmission shop wont charge but a little to examine it,and see if everything is right in it,they might spot a problem with it,but if its s turbo 350 it should have a modulator valve on it,and if its a 400 it wont have, neither will a 700r4 either, but you said it was a 3 speed so it would have to be a 350,but i think when you drain it,and clean it out good ,that may fix it,and don't over fill it,that will actually make it not want to shift ,running one too full is really hard on it,good luck i hope this helps. My headlight bulb blew out...?
Real simple change trans fluid and drain torque converter also, replace trans filter and put in good quality fluid, check all, linkage and lines, a haynes manual would be helpfull, try this before going to shop can be done in about 2hrs time goodluck!U said trans been sitting a few years. Friction Plates are most likely damaged, water-condensation. U can try a fluid change only but chances are you need a re build. Take it to a trans shop for this!
