Do I have to pull the motor in my 1981 Porsche Targa SC911 to replace the front main seal?

Buzzing sound?

My understanding is that you will need to split the crankcase in order to release the main seal (and that will requrie you to drop the engine). I haven't done this myself, but with related O ring leaks and such from people I know, they always choose to address this when they are doing rebuilds or other major engine work.
