Alternator wont charge battery?

Question:
i have a 580 watt amplifier and a 97A alternator, my alternator wont charge my battery when my car is running, i have checked the belts and they are tight, i have checked all connections and they are solid.

Take a multimeter and measure the voltage without the engine running. Should be about 12V. Then start the engine and take another reading across the battery terminals and it should read 13.6V. If it doesn't then you need to have the charging system repaired.

That 97A alternator might have its rating stated in peak current, instead of RMS. If that's the case, then you really only have a 68A alternator(97A * 0.707), in which case your 580 watt amplifier(pulling 48A) is starving your electrical system of all the power it needs. The rest of your vehicle must need the extra 20A for your spark coil, computer, and lights.
