That said you should check your state laws-and county laws. Here in Texas we have smog for all large populated counites. I lived in Iowa for a few years and no smog-not even a safety inspection. I also lived in Az. While I liked it. The smog goes all the way back to 1967 model vehicles. This excludes a ton of street machines from being modified. Actually more restrictive than the Peoples Republic of California.
One note, let's not get too zealous about this, as the LS1 cars run better with cats than most 60s muscle cars did without. We just want to drive our hobby vehicles and enjoy them. To help the environment, carpool, take a mass transit, combine errands to one trip...this also saves fuel and you money.
Depends on where you live. MY state has smog inspection every two years, which consists of a visual inspection AND a tailpipe emissions sniffer, and there is a fine if it's obvious that the system has been purposely bypassed or altered.

it depents on the regulations of your state.but no cats.on ur car should improve ur performance. if you want to you can get creative and open up ur cats. and remove the inside and weld them back together. how ever when doin this it is not legal in most states.. hit make cuts on topside of ur cat take open shell and set it inplace with out cuting ur state pipes.iin VA we only have safty checks
I agree with your first answer...depending on where you live. In my state, they will refuse to inspect your vehicle with improper exhaust. Plus a cop can give you a ticket for improper exhaust.

What you are going to have to do is; What the vehicle came with is what has to be on the vehicle. Yours came with Cat. Converters, and you will have to have them on there when you go for an inspection. Depending on your state laws, and how they are enforced will determine the outcome. The state I live in requires the converters be on the vehicle, and I am almost positive this is a federal law, and not just a state law. Most inspectors are lenient with old vehicles, but it would help if you know the people doing the inspection. Check with you state and local inspection station. Just ask them what the rule is. That depends on your state laws for inspection. In Kentucky where I live there is no inspection..... same in WV. My brother in law rides around with straight pipes..... It sounds like your chevy would be loud, straight pipes and glass packs!! LOL! If you have no inspection, or none for emmisions then you are good.Its against Federal law to remove the cats. Buy aftermarket cats and run straight pipe from the cat, lose the mufflers.
in ks we do not have inspections except when being sold to someone out of state or bought from out of state. or when tagged after having an off road title.if your in ks i would nt worry.
