The solenoid can be replaced by itself... but the starter motor is probably the same age, so if you are removing and replacing ONE, you can save yourself valuable time and effort by replacing both at once.
The solenoid can be GOOD FOR MONTHS, YEARS, but then it has difficulty sliding left and right inside its case. Then, with a firm tapp with a hammer or iron bar... surprise, it works again.for a while.

1. Find the starter motor and the little round electromagnet that sits on top of it. THAT IS THE SOLENOID. There is a heavy fat red wire that goes directly to the battery. AND there is a small thin wire that is removeable with two fingers??
2. Remove that wire completely from its small terminal. push wire to the side.
3. Make sure car is in Neutral or Park. Hand brake ON.
4. Turn ignition key to the first position.
5. Touch another piece of wire (or a short screwdriver) between the heavy red wire and the small bare terminal. Hold for only 2 seconds... the starter motor should START!!

You have just bypassed the bad solenoid.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUY an expensive Peugeot starter and solenoid. Go to another parts shop and get one made by an "aftermarket" company. I think 65 euro would be a good price. 65 euro = 44 pounds??

This could be a problem with the starter motor, the ignition switch, or the immobiliser.
