Does anyone think Ford Motor Co. can make a comeback?
This could be one of several issues - not necessarily timing. The timing advance is controlled by the ECU with inputs from the O2 sensor, throttle position sensor, temperature sensor, engine knock sensor, and RPM sensor.2003 ford windstar won't start after a dead battery?!?
The first thing to do is to scan the prom with a scantool and check for errors. Misfires will probably show up. It may indicate something obvious, like an O2 sensor or fuel pressure problem.
Cold running problems often stem from a mixture which is too lean and this message usually comes from the O2 sensor which is supposed to "read" how rich the mixture is. It may be giving the ECU a false signal. On your car, you probably have 2 - a pre and post cat sensor.

You may also want to check the obvious easy things like air filter, plugs and wires...

I would suspect the crank position sensor. If these get out of whack, they don't start good. I have seen this before.More Questions & Answers ...
