When I push on the peddle it is tight. I have to pump the brakes and this sometimes doesn't solve the problem. Stopping is getting scarey. I have replaced both front and back brakes recently. Sure could use some input before I haul this thing into the shop AGAIN! I have topped up the brake fluid level, but it wasn't down all that much. Could this be a master cylinder problem? Very frustrated.

You need to have the brakes "PRESSURE - BLED". If the hydraulic system was opened or if the fluid got low in the master cylinder, you could have air pockets. If you notice the angle of the master cylinder, you will see that it actually is on an incline. The reservoir cap is level. Air can pocket in the end of the master cylinder bore and create this problem.ALSO: you need to have the rear wheel cylinders inspected. Some times the piston cups will be rusted or frozen. A technician needs to visually inspect them.

Sounds like a brake fluid problem, try checking to see if it is leaking anywheres by looking at the ground underneath it, or on the backside of the brakes from underneath, or the front sides with the wheels off.Problem with linearality of 05 mariner gas gauge?
