Back in the late 80's or early 90's, G.M. manufactured a shortbox truck, the S.S. model with the 454 cu. inch engine. Can anyone tell me what year range it was manufactured and where I can find out more details on it? With fuel economy having become such major concern nowadays, I would like to buy one of these vehicles ,as finding an older truck with a good big block or musclecar with a big block is way too expensive. Thanks!!!!

They have all the production numbers and a good forum for more Info - modifications, etc. They were made from 1990-1993. I own a 1992.
1990 had 13,748 produced but had a 3 speed automatic and lower horspower. Lots are around though.

1991-3 had the new O/D transmission and got slightly better by 1-2 MPG (still not great!). For 1992/3 they also came in Red and white in addition to the previous Black. 1991-3 also had the factory tach and "true" dual exhaust. Production numbers were way down for 1991-3 - the total production numbers of all 3 years were 3205 combined making them more difficult to find - especially in red or white.
Check Ebay - the cheapest is the 1990 model but the best is the 1991-3. Some early trans problems on the 91's.
Big blocks were available in larger pickups and suburbans after 1993 as well. Just not in a short box 1/2 ton.
