my volvo s70 has a starting problem, the engine starts ok but will not keep running it cut out as soon as it is started, after a few attemps it starts as per normal and runs normal . half the time it start ok but then it starts as above the milage is 107k and year is 1997 any ideas please

a few things you can try before you go to the shop. check the battery terminals, they're bad about corroding, and eating through the smaller wires. causes all sorts of problems. i'd try a tank of premium and a bottle of fuel injector cleaner. if you have any mechanical experience, you can probably risk trying to clean the throttle plate, but ONLY if its NOT the electronic throttle body. you can tell if it is or not by looking for old fashioned throttle cable. dont take it off, just hold it open and wipe off the plate with a rag sprayed with a bit of carburetor cleaner. not a bad idea to change the flame trap (Volvo's idea of a pcv valve) while you're in there.What is the difference between toyota corolla and toyota avensis?
not enough info...has it EVER been tuned up? iv seen cars run 100,000 miles having never had a plug, wire fuel filter changed...start with... the simple stuffget a new one..no but honestly you should take it back to your volvo dealership they should be able to help you or atleast tell you somewhere to go

Sounds like a problem I Had with my '91 740. I would check the plugs, coil , cap and rotor for proper spark and wires for arching. Also check the fuel pump relay and filter. And change the oil because with all that cranking oil and gas usually mix in the oil.try disconnecting the mass air flow sensor if it stays running it will be running like crap if this does happen your throttle is either A.dirty

im just telling you what it could be based on repeated complaints at my work about the same thing, F Y I. and one more thing its probably a 1998 but might say 1997 on the vin plate this just means it was build in late 97 but is considered a 1998, take care!
