Bmw x5 will not start/clicking sound?

Question:
Hi,

Help me understand why after my car's Idle Air Control Valve died, so did my computer.?

We just bought this 2003 bmw x5 with 35,000 miles on it 3 days ago.
When turning the key all I get is a clicking sound.
The dash lights come on so there seems to be power from battery.

There might be enough power in batter for dash lights, but evidentaly not enough to turn the engine. Try gettin a jump start, let the car run awhile to see if the battery will charge. If not, have your alternator checked before you buy a new battery. Autozone parts store checks alternators for free!

if you try to start it and the lights stay fairly lit then most likely you have a bad starter,if the light dim a lot or go away then you have a bad connection,most likely at the battery or the starter

It is eather your alternator or your battery is going and you need to charge it even though the light go on it doesnt mean that the battery is charged usually on newer cars they have hidden little battery so the lights can work for hazards even if the battery went for saftey reasons

It is probably your alternator. My 86 Crown Vic did the same exact thing and it turned out to be the alternator.

Check your battery cables to be sure they are clean and tight. If they are, your battery is probably failing. Have it tested.

Could also be alternator, starter, or even a bad, lose cable....but I would bet my money on a battery...the timing is just too perfect.

after you have checked those areas and it still goes wrong you have to take the entire ignition out and thoroughly inspect it
