Question:
I have a 2002 2500 Ram Diesel when I had 78,000 the turbo burn up Dodge replaced it when I had about 80,000 the turbo burn up again Dodge replaced it, When I had about 82,000 the turbo burn up again Dodge replaced it, Now I have about 84,000 and the engine burn up. Dodge said they will not repair it because an inspector said he found the oil filter was only half full so I must have run it low on oil, The truck has never been run low on oil. The bearing were burnt and the rods were scorch. I complained that they were missing something to cause the turbo to burn up I told them my oil pressure gauge would drop to zero and then come back to normal pressure but it sounded like the engine wasn't getting any oil when this happen. I have contracted the attorney General Daimler Chrysler won't talk with me what can I do. They want 16,500 for a rebuilt engine and now Daimler says I should pay 5,000 ot this. Anyone have any answers for me. would a bad oil pump cause this to happen
Thanks

SVT Cobra engine in an Explorer?
Something was wrong on your part, 78,000 is way too late for defective parts to happen. Your oil pump may have burned out, but your truck is way out of warranty, so this usually would be on you. So, correct me if I am wrong, but Chrysler only wants you to pay five grand? That is a steal. If your truck was still in the warranty, you should get it replaced for free but obviously the 7yr/70,000 mile warranty is up, so there is nothing you can do about it. If your oil gauge was doing this, why didnt you have it checked?!?!? I am sorry man, but you are out of luck; The truck is worth more than 5 grand so you could fix it and sell it if you want, but remember there had to be something wrong because this is a cummings diesel, this is the same engine that has been around for decades. Go to this site and get a sign up; it is free; Go to the cummings section and these guys really know what they are taking about. Good luck on your truck!!2000 Crown Vic p71 climate control?
Btw my name on the site is Jr. Mechanic
Edit: Okay , so what does the extended warranty cover? Look into all of the details and see what you can find. usually the warranty is prorated, so you will have to pay a certain amount of the repair price. These engines can get expensive to replace, but, not to be biased, hardly ever need to be. If the turbos kept burning out, I would say there is definitely a problem with the oil circulations or the cooling system. For it
to go through that many turbos in that amount of time, that means there is clearly something wrong, which the dealership should have caught. At what interval's did you change your oil? If something in the oil can cause these turbos to seize up, or a bad oilpump. What exactly burned up in the engine?
