In general after how many miles does the catalytic converter go bad on 1999 Honda Accords?

there isnt a general time period..depends on allot of factors...how long idles w/out driving, average temp of the area you live in...they are known to go for 100,000s miles, or soemtimes, can go bad with 40,00 miles...all depends on who, what where when...you drive !!...good luck !

im asuming you took it to a machanic they dont go bad unless you use leaded gas in it if the car is loosing power as the engine heats up or its glowing orange that is the problem(the converter)is orange hot very very very hot,but a mechanic will say its this cause itsa the most expensive thing to replace 500.00

There are varing factor to look at but you should know that in general approx 80,000 miles. some car makers offer 70,000 miles .your car is eight years old so it may not be under warranty

Cat. converter is not a maintenance item meaning it has no time or mileage limit. On Hondas, they run forever, and there are two factors that may take 'em out: corrosion and bad O2 sensor. I personally witnessed the second one only.
