The timing belt costs about 44 euros here in Belgium. I and Peugeot recommend replacing it every 60,000 km. You can do it yourself without special tools. Make the belt tight enough to twist it 90 degrees with your finger and thumb...no more than 90 degrees.
You can also add a "belt tensioner pulley" at the same time just to be safe. I think that cost 25 euro.
