A 6-bolt engine is one that has a 6-bolt flywheel, that means there are 6 bolts holding the flywheel to the crankshaft. A 7-bolt motor has 7 bolts there.

Are you referring to eclipse's? And the 6 bolt and 7 bolt? Its basically just two slightly different engines. the 6 bolt is better and less likely to crank walk if the eclipse is a turbo, which is why people often do a engine swap over to the 6 bolt if it comes with a 7 bolt. The 7 bolt is mostly in the 95 and up eclipses. If the eclipse is nonturbo, you dont have to worry.
