Question:
I'm debating on trading in my 2002 FX4 ranger. It's been a good truck. It has just over 70000 miles. I take excellent mechanical care of it. Has anyone run one of these trucks to high miles? How many before a major breakdown? Thanks!

Yeas these engines were also put in Ford Aerostar vans and I think Tauras I have found through my research on the net of many Auto Blogs/Forums about auto's that these 4.0 can last 500,000 plus miles Shhh don't want Ford to find out they will dis continue them. How do you get the timing back in a 1995 Ford Ranger?
So if you want a good truck keep the one you have and it will last for years if you take care of it like changing the oil every 4,0000 km's including having the transmission oil changed every 2 years, transmissions need their oils changed too.
I would highly recommend the Synthetic types of oils they help to reduce the heat in your motor/transmission.
Also if you had a transmission oil cooler installed it will dramatically reduce the heat in your transmission . helping it to last possibly as long as your engine. As Ford transmissions are not known for durabilitly, I think mainly because folks rarely if ever change their Transmission oil & Filter.
Where can I buy a Bumper for a Gray 2006 Dodge Dakota ST Quad Cab V6 in Massachusetts?
Keeping and eye on you Coolant/Fan Sensors or having them replaced every 25,000 miles will ensure that you always get a true accurate Temp gauge reading don't want to blow a headgasket it will cost big bucks to fix.
And if you live in a area of the Country where salt is put on the roads in the winter be sure to pressure wash the under carridge frequently and have the car sprayed with oil once a year it will help it last for a long time. Hope this will be of help.
I had a ford explorer with a 4.0 liter which is the exact motor you have and it had 280,000 miles on it and still had factory oil pressure, didnt smoke knock and ran smooth. I sold it about 5 years ago to a guy i know and it is still running good. Those are great motors, and no complaints from me.
