But the reason that Acura is separate from Honda like Lexus is from Toyota is that when Honda and Toyota were introduced in USA they were simply satisfactory cars. Therefore with witty marketing they set up subdivisions of their company focused on more quality vehicles to attack upscale markets. Obviously this has worked (you will always see a Ford as a Ford even if they produced a Benz-a-like). Note that Acura and Lexus brands do not exist in Japan as of now.
