3rd gen camaro customizing for horsepower?

Question:
I am looking to buy a 3rd generation camaro and was wondering if it is a good platform to build a high performance car. most of the people around here are mustang people and don't talk highly of camaro. It is a body style I have always liked. I am looking at dropping in a 383 stroker. Will the car perform well with 400+ horsepower??

Why isn't the Cadillac brand in the list of "car makes" on CarQnA.com?

Good choice. What you want to find is a1985 or 1987-1988 IROC. Skip the '86's cause we softened them up suspension wise and put cams in them to produce 30% less HPThese cars with "gatorback tires did a .95 on the skid pad and the Corvette with the beefed up suspension pkg was the only car better Here is what I did when we ran mine down the assembly line. We dropped in the Trans Am WS6 front struts and rear sway bar. We also took the Trans Am rearend (there were 2 different ones At the Jjunkyard the one to avoid was painted with powder coat paint. The good one has 12 bolts and it looked rusty when we installed it on the assembly line so it should really look rusty now. It will also have a rear disc brake setup too and when swapping out you need the master cylinder and metering block( that gizmo looking thing the brake lines from the mastercylinder to another gizmo and then on out to the front and rear brake lines.) IROC front sway bar and rear springs with the Bilstein shocks and of course the 700r4 tranny (automatic) or the 1987 350 with the 5 spd tranny. See in 1987 HotRod magazine came out with an article that the '87" was as fast as the LT1 1970 350. If ya go automatic they make a valve that bolts on and will shift into OD without rigging up a toggle switch to do it manually. If ya can ,go with the tuned port injected with bigger runner tubes and they make a harness for easy wiring of these. Go with the (I think they fit but not sure of the yr) fuel injectors from a "94" or "95" Corvette. If ya go carburated a Holley 750 double pumper on a Victor Jr. The 1985 305 tuned port inj motors had 2.05 valves and a smaller combustion chamber so if ya can get a set of these along with a stage 2 Crowler cam and use 1969 Z28 302 valve springs Oh , Thats right ya already got a motor ,so I'm sorry for rambling on. As for those "ying yangs' who have no respect for the Camaro or Firebird they will have after ya blow their doors off not only in the straightaway but also around the curves. By mixing a few parts from the Trans Am WS6 option pkg and the IROC these cars were "BAD TO THE BONE" so to speak. Why, cause when we built these cars they were race ready for the track . Ya want to know another little secret to better handling? Take a new set of tires and have them "shaved" . This is where they put the tire on a lathe and "shave of anywhere between 1/3 and 1/2 the tread to make the tire perfectly round. You have now added another .04 -.05 grip on the skid pad (remember ya already got about .93 -.95 on the skid pad I GUARENTEE YOU WILL MAKE THOSE MUSTANG DRIVERS SWAP OVER TO CHEVROLET OR TRANS AM!!! Also a friend of mine told me about MSD producing a progressive nitrous oxide injection system that releases the spray all through out the acceleration. Look into this also as I 'm not sure of the brand name. For better beathing get the Camaro SS breather pkg fromthe last few models they made off line or the Firehawk breather system as they have 6 or 8 brether elements for more air flow on the tuned port inj systems. If ya go carburatedget a dual snorkel breathe and run the hoses down to the front under the bumper for mounting and get gobs of air

Going to buy a 300td wagon, any easy things to look for problems?

With the right transmission tires an gears that car will handle anything. nice displacement by the way!!

What is the spark plug order on a 2001 sable 3.0L DOHC coil block?

Yes! I have seen many 3rd generation camaros with 383's in them, they do well on the drag strip. If you get the ram air fiberglass hood (Usually on the SS or the WS6) its just a pain to install, since it doesn't fit, Takes some body work. Also, ram air intake with a double throttle body will help as well, it looks pretty mean on a 3rd gen camaro.

Does BMW make anymore M3's?

Based on the specs you are going to drop in the car, you will perform well and have a nice daily driver. Do not forget that to make use of all that motor you must improve the stock drivetrain and traction set up. Look at running low13's in a quater mile possibly high 12's
