Question:
My sons 2000 dodge neon won't move. I can start it and put it in gear, and it will go forward about 2 feet or backward about 2 feet, but there is noise coming from the rear of the car. No problem getting it in gear. He thought it was transmission, but I think it has something to do with the brakes or back axle. The emergency brake is off. Any ideas?

i own a repair shop, and there is a slight possibility the emergency brake my be frozen up on it,,even though you released it,,it may not be all the way off, i have seen this happen a lot of times before, especially in cold weather,,is also check the transmission fluid in it,,its possible it may be very low on fluid, and it cold,,it wont move until its right,,just start checking things till you find it,,good luck, hope this help,s.,,merry x-mas.I HAVE A 98 DODGE NEON,AND IF MY OIL GETS LOW ,MY CAR ACTS LIKE THE MOTOR IS LOCKING UP.

what do u think u should do fix my 89 chevy corsica or buy a new used car?
Here are some likely causes:1) Emergency brake cable is hung up/stuck/broken.
2) Rear Brake caliper stuck (assuming you have the 4-wheel disc brake option that came with the ES and LX models) or stuck wheel cylinder (if you have rear drum brakes).
how many cylinder dos a honda civic?
Pull the rear wheels and expose the brake assembly. See if anything moves when you try to apply the emergency brake. Engage and disengage it a few times to try to loosen things up.Then try applying the brakes normally, pumping the pedal a few times to try to work them loose. If you can't safely do this yourself, I'd recommend taking the vehicle to a brake shop where they can put the vehicle up on a lift. Most such places will diagnose the problem for free. Hope this info helped.
I had a 1996 neon and it did the same thing yours did. mine was a 5-speed. The brakes on the back locked up on 2 seperate occasions. I was only 16 at the time and my dad fixed them for me. Not to sure what he did, but he didn't have to spend any money on it, he just took the rear drums apart and fixed them.
pull your back wheels and check your rear brakes.
