I have had a 64 1/2 fastback mustang (2 +2) since I was 19. My Dad had it restored for me. I'm wonderfing about "codes" I've been reading about. What extactly is a "K Code" mustang or a "C Code" mustang, etc.? Thanks!

code F - 260 2v cid
code D - 289 4v 210 hp
The K code 289 hipo 4v 271 hp is a 65 model.
ALL 64 1/2 models had Generators
Some 65 models had generators , some had altenators .

i own a shop and the k code car was the engine it came with,in your case it would be a 4 barrel engine probably a high performance 289 ,that came with it ,especially since it was a 2+2 ,most of those had the 289 high performance engine in them,good luck i hope this helps.The yellow engine engine light has come on my vauxhall corsa 1.2 16v what does this mean ?
K code mustangs are most rare mustangs.The k code mustangs are more valueable.Only 7273 were produced with this engine out of 121538 built .A c code mustang had a 289 2 barrel rated @ 200 hp, the K code 289 4 barrel .Had soliid lifer cam more horspower 271.The K code mustangs also only came from the factory with standard transmissions and 9 inch rear differential .Now look at your VIN # look at the 5 th digit it could be U, T,F,C,D,A.or K. The K code (part of VIN) was the 271 horse 4bblversion. The C was 200 horse 2bbl version.
The codes will sometimes change thru the years
and mean different things so be aware of that
