92 volvo 740 non turbo no start. Had intermittant problem of car shutting off while driving, now it wont start

Question:
car would intermittantly shut off while driving after at least 5 min. i would pull over and car would restart anywhere from first try to after waiting five minutes. seemed like something would reset and i could start the car again. i came out from work after 8 hours and car would crank but not start, after tryng for 15 minutes. any ideas? possible fuel/suppression relays? power stage? any ideas on what to check would be helpful.

Sounds like a problem I Had with my '91 740. I would check the plugs, coil , cap and rotor for proper spark and wires for arching. Also check the fuel pump relay and filter. And change the oil because with all that cranking oil and gas usually mix in the oil.
