Hey, I bought a 98 Accord, V6, Vtech, automatic transmission. Recently the transmission all but went out. I took it to a repair place and the guy told me it would be either 2300 to repair the trans or 2600 for a brand new one. Is this realistic, or a flim-flam man? By the way, I live in La Verne in Southern California, if it matters..but, is this a realistic price??

From what I've researched on the internet, that's a bargain, but expect the new or remanufactured transmission to have problems too.Google "1998-2001 Honda Accord transmission problems" and delve in. You'll receive a wealth of first-hand experienced information from people just like you. I was flabbergasted. I drive an '01 Accord EX 4-cylinder, and after 150,000 trouble-free miles, my transmission only slips when it is very cold, or below 40 or so. After warming up everything returns to normal. I've changed the fluid (USE HONDA FLUID ONLY. PERIOD.) 3 times to get most of the 144,000-mile-old fluid out. I noticed a significant improvement, and even when cold, if you let off the throttle about the time you expect the shift AND drive EASILY for the first 5 miles or so, it will make a big difference.

Yes, unfortunatly for you you have one of the most expensive trans. to repair. If you want a great replacement option look into a Jasper re-manufactured unit. They are a nationwide company that has been around for a long time. I install re-man transmissions and engines from them all the time and never have any trouble with them. of mine found a dealer service bulletin,
in other words,a transmission recall,
by honda.

Call around - the shop I work at doesn't cost that much. Ask how much it would be if all the hard parts are still good and the cost to replace the entire tranny to get a price range. Until it is taken out and opened up you cant tell the extent of damage. (I'm only about 2 hours north of La Verne CA). Also check online with the Better Business Bureau with any repair shop you talk with.99 grand prix gt leaks water on passenger floor. help me?
actually, that's pretty cheap. unfortunately, that is the case (just to let you know, the transmission recall was on the "00-'01 model accords and odysseys) whatever you decide to do,make sure you go for the remanufactured unit. that's when the inside of the transmission is brand new but they just reuse the case.More Questions & Answers ...
