1st to 4th gear. They are just drive gears. You can manually shift the car by switching from 1 thru 4. Nice thing about having the ability to shift gears with the automatic is that in winter you are able to start from 2nd gear and get a lot better traction from a stop. But...that is the positive here in the Midwest...I am sure there are a lot more...but hey...that's all I got.Tried to change my oil today. I was unsuccessful. 2005 Chevy Cavalier.?
They are lower gears and used to keep the tranny from getting into overdrive. Say you are in town and you dont want the car to keep going through all the gears. It also good when you are in snow to keep traction and manual control over the tranny. Check your car manual and it will better explain it.More Questions & Answers ...
