What is the purpose of the rest button on my BMW 525i air condition?

there is a button on my BMW's A/C with "REST" writtin on it, it tuns the heater on only when the car is switched off, what is it for,, whats the point of turning on the heater on the car is off, and is it good or bad to press it before getting off the car , it works only for about 10-15 mins,, and the car is a 2000 525i BMW

I agree with "estmirabi...", the "REST" switch allows the heater to run/keep your cabin warm without the engine running. It uses the "Residual" heat left over by the engine (the heat created by the engine when it was running). Usually, this heat is availabe temporarily...about 30min or more...after which warmth diminishes.

well it sounds like a feature i would like to have. in the wintertime, sitting in the car usually means leaving it running to keep warm. the rest button allows the heat to be on without the engine running. enjoy it!
