1979 Toyota Corolla?

Question:
Im about to get a 79 corolla and it needs some work, if it has the 22R engine i will just upgrade it but i think it has the 20R so what would be a fairly new engine or a better one that i could drop into it without having to rebuild the entire car? By the way its so old its rear wheel drive so front wheel drive engines would not work too well.
