I HAVE AN 87 JEEP WRANGLER w/4.2L AND I AM HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING IT AND IT HAS ALSO DIED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS OR HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM? I JUST BOUGHT IT AND I AM NOT TO FAMILAR WITH IT YET, BUT PLAN TO LEARN.

You need a new module. It's bolted to the driver's side fender under the coolant resevoir bottle. With out it all it does is crank with no hint of spark. For preventative measures replace the coil at the same time (bottle shaped thing next to the distributor with two small wires and one big one). They're usually under $20, and if it's pretty old a new hot firing module may cause it to burn out.

You might have a bad starter. Replace it if that is the case. If your car dies while driving down the road you might have a problem with your ignition system. Maybe the distributor, coil, or spark plugs. Or you may have a fuel pressure problem. If no fuel is getting to the piston chambers then the car will staul.you can buy a code reader for fairly cheap now A das to find out exactly what is wrong. the starter would not have anything to do with it dieing while driving. It could be alot of different things, fuel delivery, spark issue, ignition, best bet take it to a mechanic or get a reader, a good mech will diagnose and be able to tell you the prob so you can fix.
could be allot of things! could be your timing is off! could be your coil is going bad, could be you starter or you cylinoid are bad! could be your head gasket is busted, Yes, I said it! if water collects on top of you piston it is hard for the fuel to be ignited by the spark! but most probably not! I would say check you starter and cylinoid by taking it off and bringing it to autozone or somewhere else! then I would change my coil (they are very cheap) next check or change my distributor cap and the little rotor inside!
