I have a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier used primarily for work. I drive the car on highway and in town. Currently has 65,000 miles. Bought it new and it was fine till about 40,000 (just 4,000 out of warranty) My problem is that the transmission started acting up by jerking when it was put into gear. I took it to the dealer who told me that because there was no light on the dash there was nothing wrong. I know this is bull. as the car never did it before. A friend drove it an thought it micht be a u-joint. Also as time passes the car now makes a "clunking" sound as it slows down... such as stopping for a stop sign or a traffic light. The problem is intermittent but when it acts up it keeps getting worse. problems really rear their ugly head when you run the car hard.

I own a transmission shop, and it sounds to me like the transmission is over due to be serviced. Have the fluid & filter changed, and pay attention to what is in the bottom of the pan when it is removed. If there is any sign of metal, then you've got trouble. There will be some trash as all of them have this, but it shouldn't contain metal. The (TCC) solenoid is sticking, and may need to be replaced. This solenoid controls the lock up torque converter, and causes the engine to act like a straight drive when you stop at a stop light. It will pull the engine down until it stalls, or the solenoid finally activates, and releases the clutch in the torque converter, and you hear this clunking sound. It will do it some times, and not at others, but may get to where it won't unlock at all, and stall the engine. You should have this replaced at the same time as you have the fluid change. You can get some stuff called "Lubegard" at the parts store that will help for the present, but its pretty expensive about $10. It will fix the problem in most of them without doing anything else.Glad to help out, Good Luck!

Sounds more like a burnt clutch in your automatic transmission.
A Rebuilt at that point, or fix the clutch if you think you can figure out how, a Manuel will show you but you need tools and a place and time and parts and supplies, and a good sense of humor helps too.

if the cavalier jerks and jumps and skips its diffently the transmission and if the car has knowking sound at a stop sign when pressing the gas and you sort of have to accelarate hard then the trans is going to die anywhere and I think u should take to a transmission shop and ask them to check it outI was running a w f e and had trouble with the vacuum pump what kind of pump does a w f e have.?
before taking it to the trans shop check the oil when car hasnt been started for an hour or more. then turn on the car on and wait at least 5-10minutes and check the trans oil again see if its normal also if it has burnning smell take it to the shop immeditly that means danger for you and more costly

For the clunking, check the upper engine mount. That will also cause the jerking when put into gear.Are Dodge Neon Srt-4's worth Buying?
First thing you want to do is check the fluid to make sure it is not burnt (you'll know by the smell) I have also seen this before when the trani filter fell out. you might take it to a local shop and have them pull the trani filter and inspect or even change it only cost about 90-125 dollarsMore Questions & Answers ...
