"Cat-back" sound.?

How would i get a "cat-back" sound on my 2000 mazda miata?

By installing a cat-back system, of course.

Trying to achieve the same result with just a muffler or extension just doesn't work. It will make it sound funny and you will have thrown out good money. Save up for the system if you don't have the money now, you'll be glad you did.
