I have a 2001 Dodge Stratus. While driving down the road I hear a pop from rear end and then it started rattling really badly. I just spent 800.00 on car, I am really freaking out!!

your stratus is front wheel drive so all you have in the rear is a straight axel. if you are sure that the rattling is in the rear, grab your spare tire jack, leave the tires on and jack up one side, grab the tire at 3 and 9 o`clock and try to wiggle it back and forth to see if it feels loose, then do the other side.this is where i would at least start

You have a possibility of two answers:
One, check to see if the tires are not flat or the rims not bent, and all lug nuts (hold the tires on) tight, and all connecting pieces (Shocks, Tie & sway bars, and axles) are not loose.

Two, If the whole car shakes, it could be engine related...the pop being a back-fire...the engine now running rough...due to a fuel injection related/timing issue, or blown head gasket (check engine oil dipstick for antifreeze)...which you'll have to take to the shop either way.
