The differences you will notice are acceleration and fuel economy. With the manual, it will be quicker off the line and more fuel efficient. IMO a manual is also funner to drive than an automatic.1998 Ford Taurus SHO intermittantly will not start or crank.?

Manual cars are more reliable, faster, cheaper to fix, and they get better gas mileage.Manual is about 0.2 seconds faster to 60mph(100kph) and 1-2mph faster in top speed. They are about $1000-2000 cheaper to buy.
The diesel has a LOT of low-end torque, and is NOT a high reving engine.
